Shopify and WooCommerce power a huge number of online stores. The right choice depends on your team, products and plans, not on which is more popular.
Shopify: simple and managed
Shopify is a hosted platform. Security, hosting and updates are handled for you, and checkout is well tested. The trade-off is less flexibility at a deep level and monthly fees that grow with apps and plan level.
WooCommerce: flexible and self-managed
WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress. It gives you control over almost everything and fits well if you already run a WordPress site. You are responsible for hosting, security and performance.
Questions to ask
- Who will manage the store day to day, and how technical are they?
- How many products and variants do you expect?
- Do you need unusual pricing, subscriptions or integrations?
- What is your budget for ongoing maintenance as well as the build?
Our approach
We build on both. For many small and medium retailers Shopify is the quicker route to a reliable store. For content-led shops or complex requirements WooCommerce or a custom build can be a better fit. We will recommend what suits you after hearing about your plans.
